From the day she first stepped onto the stage to today, her face lights up in delight of the dance. You'll always be my favorite dancer, Karla! (I’m sorry I didn’t see your comment sooner, as I always try to reply as soon as I can.) The story about your son’s tooth is funny! It’s amazing the things we have to come up with on the fly for our kids. Glad to hear he is doing well! Please keep in touch. You can also email me directly at karla at myhighmaintenancelife dot com – I see that regularly. I think parental support is so important for parents of challenging kids. We can certainly benefit from talking to each other. Thank you again!
Best,
Karla

Re: The Elf is Out of the Closet

I loved your story because it reminded me of a similar thing that happened to me when my son's tooth went down our bathroom sink. It came out when he was wiggling it and it went right down the drain. He was crying his eyes out and was saying "the tooth fairy won't come now!" Well, I had to think fast because he was hysterical. I told him that I was the Tooth Fairy. He finally stopped crying, but then he asked me if that meant there was no Easter Bunny or Santa. I quickly said noooo they are real. He was 10 yrs. old at the time so he believed me luckily.
I am also a single parent and my son has ADHD, This year my son turned 15 and I decided to discontinue his Concerta. He is more mature now and he does not have behavior issue like when he was younger. I'm not an expert on ADHD and medication, but I also teach children with ADHD. and I advise meds. only if a child can not focus on school work or everyday life situations, such getting along with others. I'm here to help you out if you need a sounding board or some well meaning advise. I think you are a great writer and I wish I could write like you:)
Sue

Re: Dogs or Kids: Is it Possible to Love Your Dogs Too Much?

Aww, thanks, Dad! I can certainly appreciate your high-maintenance life and all your efforts to keep your family happy. If it weren't for my daughter's antics, I'd have much less to write about, so I am truly thankful for that! I hope I don't sound like I am complaining - just trying to find the humor in it all. You're absolutely right - I do have it pretty good :) You're a wonderful Mom, making 4 different dinners each night - something your family should definitely appreciate!

Re: How (Not) to Cook Peanut Butter: A Short Video by Antonia Somers

Are you really complaining about a couple of "globs" of peanut butter??? I have two boys. 2! They don't eat peanut butter, but when they make something they use every dish, every piece of silverware and every bowl and that's just to make popcorn...in a microwave! I think you have it pretty good and your life is not high maintenance at all compared to me making 4 dinners each night (because everyone in this house has their own individual taste and I'm at home now, so that's my duty I guess). But I'm not complaining. It could be worse. It could always be worse. sigh

Re: How (Not) to Cook Peanut Butter: A Short Video by Antonia Somers

Thanks, Roger!
